Morning links: Tanner Mangum shares best wishes for Zach Wilson; BYU gymnast’s Super Mario routine goes viral

As a quarterback, the saga of Tanner Mangum’s time at BYU played out largely in the public eye.

Magnum arrived in Provo with soaring aspirations as a high-level quarterback recruit and endured both highs and lows in college. That included starting as a freshman when Taysom Hill went down with an injury to being replaced by a freshman, Zach Wilson, during Mangum’s senior season in 2018.

Magnum showed appreciation for his time at BYU in an Instragram post over the weekend.

“Facing adversity with resilience and positivity isn’t always easy — sometimes it’s the opposite. But I never want to let my frustrations harden me as a person or make me less kind. Life is too short for that,” he wrote.

Mangum, who threw for 6,262 yards and 39 touchdowns in his career, played in the college all-star Tropicana Bowl on Sunday.

He also made sure to send best wishes to Wilson as he leads the BYU offense the next few years.

“As for this kid, well let’s just say the future is bright. Thanks for the memories, Zachy. Happy I could teach you how to slide, cause we all know I didn’t teach you how to hurdle! Stay safe out there, brother. It was a pleasure,” Mangum wrote on Instagram.

And finally …

BYU gymnast Shannon Hortman-Evans drew national attention this past weekend with her “Super Mario Bros.”-inspired floor routine during the Cougars’ meet against the University of Utah.

It wasn’t the first time Hortman-Evans has performed a unique floor routine against the Utes. Last year, it was a ocean-inspired routine, with music from the Beach Boys to “Hawaii Five-0” to the iconic “Jaws” soundtrack.
